About
A field guide to hidden cinema.
The Things You Missed is a structured database of easter eggs, hidden details, references, foreshadowing, and behind-the-scenes secrets in movies and TV series — currently 1271 eggs across 69 titles.
Filmmakers hide things for the joy of being found: a prop that predicts the ending, a cameo nobody clocked, a number that has followed a studio around for thirty years. Most write-ups about them are frozen listicles. We built the database instead — every egg timestamped, categorized, difficulty-rated, and sourced, for people who just finished watching something and want to know what they missed.
How we verify
Every entry carries one of three verification labels:
- ✓ Confirmed
Backed by an official source: a director or crew interview, a commentary track, a studio post, or on-screen evidence that leaves no room for doubt. The source is linked on the egg.
- ◆ Community Consensus
Widely documented and accepted across fan communities and film press, but without an on-record creator confirmation.
- ? Theory
A compelling read that hasn't been confirmed. We include the best ones because they're part of the fun — always clearly labeled, never presented as fact.
When a theory gets confirmed or debunked, the entry is updated and the page's "last updated" date reflects it honestly.
The spotting scale
- Plain SightRight there on screen — you probably saw it and moved on.
- Second WatchClicks on a rewatch, once you know how the story ends.
- Freeze FrameYou need to pause at exactly the right moment.
- Deep CutRequires outside knowledge — other films, lore, or history.
- White WhaleNear-mythical. Found via commentary tracks, crew interviews, or obsessive frame hunts.
Spotted something we missed?
Corrections and new finds are welcome — that's the whole point of the site. Email hello@thethingsyoumissed.com with the title, the timestamp, and (ideally) a source. A proper submission system with contributor credits is on the roadmap.
