Does Barbie have a post-credit scene?

In an ordinary cinema — and on every digital, disc and streaming version since — there is nothing after the credits. Greta Gerwig lands her closing punchline, cuts, and hands the crawl over to a montage of real Mattel product: the 1959 original in her striped swimsuit, decades of career and fashion lines, and the infamous Growing Up Skipper, six-plus decades of manufacturing history taking a curtain call while the crew names scroll. It is a credits sequence with a point of view rather than a placeholder, and it is the only thing playing.

One version is different, which is why Barbie still turns up on post-credits lists. On September 22, 2023 — nine weeks into the run, shortly after the film cleared $1.4 billion — Warner Bros. put it into IMAX screens with roughly six minutes of bonus footage stitched onto the end as a thank-you to audiences. That reel is deleted material and bloopers rather than story. Emerald Fennell's Midge finally goes into labour, and Helen Mirren's Narrator — heard across the whole film and never once seen — walks into shot and claps a hand over the lens to shut the moment down. Elsewhere in the montage, Kate McKinnon's Weird Barbie works through her love life, Ryan Gosling delivers a rewritten eighties pop cover, the cast crack each other up mid-take, and the abandoned zero-gravity flatulence gag that test audiences rejected finally sees daylight. Gerwig signs off herself with a note about the shoot.

None of it seeds a sequel — no Barbie 2, no Mattel-universe handoff, no character introduced. And because the reel was exclusive to those IMAX bookings and has never appeared on disc or streaming, most people who have seen Barbie have not seen it and will not stumble across it at home.
