The Things You Missed

Does Wicked have a post-credit scene?

2024 · Jon M. Chu · 162 min

The answer

No post-credit scene

Wicked has no mid-credits or post-credits scene — the film simply stops at its 'To be continued' card after 'Defying Gravity,' saving every payoff for Wicked: For Good. The credits do hold one small easter egg for those who stay: Ariana Grande is billed under her full name, 'Ariana Grande-Butera.'

What plays over the credits instead

Nothing after the credits — but the film does end on a card, and it is not a credits card. When "Defying Gravity" finishes and Elphaba is left where the interval leaves her, Jon M. Chu holds the Wicked title treatment on screen with To Be Continued underneath it. That is the entire tease. The crawl then rolls clean: no mid-credits scene, no post-credits scene, nothing behind the studio logos.

The reason is structural rather than coy. Wicked is one stage show cut in half, and everything the film plants — the Wizard, Madame Morrible, Fiyero, Nessarose's shoes, the lion cub in the bicycle basket, a tornado that has not happened yet — pays off in the second half rather than in a thirty-second sting. Much of that second half was already shot when this one opened. Wicked: For Good arrived on November 21, 2025 and, consistent with the first, carries no credits scene either; a two-part story that finishes properly does not need one.

One thing is worth catching if you stay. Ariana Grande is billed under her full legal name, Ariana Grande-Butera, which she has explained is "technically my little girl name" — the version of herself she associates with childhood rather than the stage. On a film about who a person is before the world decides to rename her, that is a better easter egg than any stinger would have been.
