Does Deadpool have a post-credit scene?

Yes, one — and it sits after the entire credit roll, so the wait is real. There is no mid-credits beat to catch on the way through and nothing hidden inside the crawl itself. The animated Deadpool material everybody remembers, including the unicorn gag, the billing of Ryan Reynolds as "God's Perfect Idiot" and the thank-you to Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, is at the front of the film, in the opening titles.

When the final card clears, Wade appears in a striped bathrobe, leaning out from behind a door, and scolds the audience for still being seated: "You're still here? It's over. Go home." It is a direct restaging of Ferris Bueller's identical brush-off at the end of Ferris Bueller's Day Off — including the part where he exits and then immediately comes back.

The comeback carries the actual news. Deadpool concedes there is no expensive teaser to show, then announces that the sequel will feature Cable and proceeds to cast him badly on the spot: you just need a big guy with a flat top, so Mel Gibson, or Dolph Lundgren, or Keira Knightley, who has range. He then shoos everyone out with the "chicka-chicka" hook from Yello's "Oh Yeah," the same needle-drop that plays Ferris out.

Unusually for a 2016 stinger, the tease was straight. Cable did headline Deadpool 2 in 2018, played by Josh Brolin rather than any of the three names Wade floated, and that film opened in exactly the fourth-wall register this tag establishes. The self-deprecation about not affording a proper teaser was also true to circumstances: Fox trimmed roughly $7 million from the budget shortly before greenlight, which is a large part of why the X-Mansion appears to house precisely two X-Men — a limitation the movie roasts in dialogue more than once.

Worth staying for once. Worth knowing on the rewatch that no franchise-building reveal is waiting at the end of this one. No Nick Fury in the shadows, no shawarma. Just Wade in a bathrobe, telling you to go.
