Does Ratatouille have a post-credit scene?

Ratatouille ends with a small post-credits gag rather than a story scene, and it is worth knowing what you are staying for so you can decide.

There is no extra plot. Nothing is set up, no sequel is teased, and no character's fate changes. What plays at the very bottom of the credit roll is a piece of animation: a cartoon Remy is lying draped across the last credit line as though it were a shelf, and when that text fades out from under him he falls, gathers himself, and limps off screen. It is about three seconds long and it is the last image in the film.

Sitting immediately beside it is the thing most worth seeing. Pixar stamps the credits with a mock quality guarantee — '100% Genuine Animation! No motion capture or any other performance shortcuts were used in the production of this film.' — complete with a winking mid-century businessman giving a thumbs up. In 2007 that was a live argument rather than a whimsy: motion-capture features were arriving every year, awards bodies were wrestling with whether they qualified as animation, and Brad Bird was firmly on one side of it. The stamp is the film's closing statement of principle, hidden in the smallest type on screen.

The credits themselves also run a stylised sequence of hand-drawn character illustrations rather than a plain roll, so the last few minutes are designed rather than administrative. If you have the patience, stay; if you do not, you are missing a joke and a manifesto, not a plot point.
