Does WALL·E have a post-credit scene?

WALL·E has no post-credits scene in the conventional sense — nothing plays after the final card. But it is the Pixar film where walking out during the credits does the most damage, because the credits are not credits. They are the third act.

The story proper ends ambiguously. The Axiom lands, the Captain plants a seedling, and the film cuts away long before you learn whether any of it works. Earth is still a wasteland. Humanity has spent seven hundred years losing the ability to walk. Nothing about that final shot promises success.

The answer is delivered entirely through the credit sequence, designed by Jim Capobianco and scored to Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman's Down to Earth. Humanity's recovery is staged as a progression through the history of art: cave paintings of the first crops, Egyptian friezes of construction, Roman mosaics, illuminated manuscripts, Japanese woodblock prints, then Impressionism and Van Gogh — with direct riffs on works including Wheat Field with Cypresses — showing farms, windmills, boats and towns. Robots work alongside people in every panel. By the time the name crawl arrives, rendered in 8-bit pixel art, generations have passed and the planet is green.

The team originally intended to continue the sequence into twentieth-century movements — cubism, Pollock — before Alex and Scott Morse suggested resolving into 8-bit instead, which lands the joke that humanity has climbed all the way back up to inventing video games.

So the correct advice is inverted from the usual one: there is nothing after the credits, and you should absolutely stay for them.
