The Things You Missed

Does Resident Evil have a post-credit scene?

2026 · Zach Cregger · 95 min

The answer

No post-credit scene

No mid-credits scene and no post-credits scene. Resident Evil cuts to black on its final image and the credits run uninterrupted — no Umbrella logo card, no sequel tease, no surviving-character stinger. The only reward for staying is the music: The Kinks' "Animal Farm" opens the credits before the Holladay brothers' score takes over.

What plays over the credits instead

No. Zach Cregger's Resident Evil has no mid-credits scene and no post-credits scene of any kind. Once the picture cuts to black, the film is finished — you can leave as the credits start without missing a frame of story.

The credits themselves are plain and deliberately cold: red text on a black background, no images, no cutaways. What plays over them is worth noting even though nothing happens on screen. "Animal Farm" by The Kinks comes in first — the film's only substantial licensed needle drop, held back until the very end — and then the score resumes with "Main Titles Extended" and "Skybridge Reprise" by Hays and Ryan Holladay. If you like the music, stay. If you are waiting for a scene, there is nothing to wait for.

This is a genuine surprise for a film in this position, and it is the single most-asked question about it. Resident Evil opened to $60 million domestically, the best debut the franchise has ever had, and went on to roughly $205 million worldwide with a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score and a B+ CinemaScore — the strongest reviews and the strongest audience grade any video-game adaptation has posted. A film performing like that normally arrives with a stinger already cut. This one does not have one, and it does not gesture at Leon, Jill, Claire, Wesker or the Raccoon City Police Department on the way out, even though the film's world is sitting right next to all of them.

That restraint is consistent with how the whole thing was built. Cregger deliberately kept every established game character off screen so the film would not, in his framing, cannibalise what the games already do well, and told interviewers he wanted to plant his foot on the accelerator around minute six and not lift it — a 94-minute film with no room in it for a coda. Whatever Cregger has to say, he says before the credits roll.

He has been open since release that he has thought about where a follow-up could go — "I've got ideas, but this movie hasn't even come out yet" — so a sequel is plausible on the numbers alone. It simply was not set up here. The things this film hid are all in the first ninety minutes: the typewriter nobody can use, the herbs Bryan walks past, the diamond padlock, the awning for a gun shop belonging to a man who never appears.
