Does Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse have a post-credit scene?

One scene, and it waits until the absolute end. There is nothing mid-credits, so the wait is the full length of an animated feature's crawl — long, and worth it.

Before the stinger, the credits carry the film's most affecting card. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko both died in 2018 while the film was in post, and Sony added a dedication: an image of Lee's glasses over his own words — that the person who helps others simply because it is the right thing to do "is indeed, without a doubt, a real superhero" — followed by "Thank you Stan Lee & Steve Ditko for telling us we're not the only ones." After ninety minutes arguing that anyone can be behind the mask, it lands hard.

Then the scene. It opens in 2099, in a lab belonging to Miguel O'Hara — voiced by Oscar Isaac, and introduced here as the first person able to cross the multiverse deliberately rather than by accident, with technology rather than a collider going wrong. He announces he is going back to the beginning one more time and jumps to Earth-67: the world of the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon, rendered in that show's flat, cheap, gloriously stiff animation and dubbed to match its recording quality. The two Spider-Men point at each other and immediately start arguing about who is pointing. The film ends by making the internet's oldest Spider-Man meme canon.

It sets up more than the joke suggests. Miguel's ability to travel under his own power is the seed of the Spider-Society in Across the Spider-Verse, and the trilogy's rule that crossing dimensions on purpose requires hardware starts right here. It also establishes that this franchise treats every previous screen Spider-Man as a real place you can walk into — the licence the sequel then spends two and a half hours cashing in. Stay.
