Does The Conjuring: Last Rites have a post-credit scene?

One, though it is a photograph and a title card rather than a filmed scene — and it recontextualises a decade of this franchise in about fifteen seconds.

The credits themselves are the first half of it, and they start immediately. Rather than a black crawl, Michael Chaves runs the names over real material: home video and photographs of Ed and Lorraine Warren across four decades, talk-show appearances, family footage, and stills from the actual investigations the series has dramatised since 2013, with a few demonic frames cut in to stop the audience relaxing. Text alongside gives the epilogue on what became of the couple after West Pittston. The Annabelle theme scores it.

After the final card comes the last image: a still of the real Ed Warren standing beside the mirror the film has spent two hours on, with text explaining that the object had been used in a ritual to call up a spirit, that it entered the Warrens' files as a conjuring mirror, and that it still sits in the Occult Museum room of their house in Monroe, Connecticut.

The setup is backwards-facing, and Chaves has been candid that it was not planned. Screenwriters Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing brought him the coincidence — the artefact at the centre of the finale happened to share the franchise's name — and he built the ending toward it. "It was really just luck," he told ScreenRant. "I loved ending on it, and I love that photo." He called it kismet rather than a twelve-year plan laid down by James Wan. As retcons go it is a graceful one, because it lets a farewell film close on a fact instead of a tease.

There is no sequel hook. Other Conjuring-universe projects exist, but the Warrens' story ends here and nothing after the credits argues otherwise. Worth staying for.
