Does Backrooms have a post-credit scene?

There is a post-credits scene in Backrooms, but only in one version of the film. If you saw the standard theatrical cut that opened on 29 May 2026, or you rented or bought the digital release from 14 July, there is nothing after the story ends: no mid-credits sting, no tag after the final card. Every credits-scene tracker that covered opening weekend said the same thing, and A24 never hid it. You can leave when the lights come up.

The scene arrived five weeks later. On 3 July 2026, A24 put Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition into theatres — the same film with roughly sixteen minutes of bonus footage attached after the credits finish rolling, so you sit through the entire crawl before it begins. It plays as a standalone found-footage short rather than a teaser. The tape opens on the words INTERNAL USE ONLY, a date of 18 June 1990 — the day before the timestamp on the film's own opening footage — and a title card reading "Preliminary layout survey via Kelowna Branch." The camera operator is Async's Naren Warne, the explorer whose disappearance sets the movie in motion, so this is the last thing recorded before the film's cold open.

Spoiler-light: a hazmat-suited Async team walks a section of the Complex, narrating what they find, and the operator's commentary curdles from procedural to frightened over about a quarter of an hour. They find retail signage that should not exist down there, a room of mannequins and furniture staged like a showroom, and a flickering television. Clanging closes in, something enters frame, the camera hits the floor, there is one shout, and the tape ends.

It is worth staying for if you care about the mythology, and skippable if you only wanted the story of Clark and Mary. What it sets up is Async's own file: how much the corporation already knew, and how long the Complex had been imitating a furniture store before anyone from that store ever walked in. If you missed the July run, the footage is on the 4K and Blu-ray editions A24 began shipping in late August, alongside a commentary track and a "Building the Backrooms" featurette.
