First seen · The Brave Little Toaster (1987)

The room number of the character animation classroom at CalArts, smuggled into the work of nearly everyone who studied there. Brad Bird used it on a licence plate in an episode of Amazing Stories, then put it on the Master's apartment door in The Brave Little Toaster; from Toy Story onward it has appeared in every Pixar feature, plus Bird's Simpsons episodes, Iron Giant and the wider Disney animation slate. It reads as a signature rather than a joke — a class of animators quietly initialling the frame.
