The Things You Missed

Catalogue answer

Which movies and TV shows hide the most confirmed easter eggs?

Avengers: Endgame (2019), Supergirl (2026) and The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) hide the most confirmed easter eggs of anything in this catalogue: 14 entries each whose intent is on the record from the people who made them. Next come Barbie (2023), Michael (2026) and Sinners (2025), on 12 each. Across all 77 breakdowns, 485 of 1,444 catalogued easter eggs (34%) are confirmed rather than fan consensus, and the full ranking below covers every title we have combed through.

A confirmed easter egg is one where a director, writer, animator, composer, production designer or the studio itself has said the detail was deliberate — in a commentary track, an interview, a making-of, or a post from someone who was in the room. Everything else stays labelled as community consensus or as a theory, however widely repeated it is. Each entry in the confirmed column carries the link to the source that says so, on the title's own page.

How this is counted

The ranking uses the confirmed count, not the total. Totals are a measure of how deep one research pass goes rather than of how much a film hides — 71 of the 77 breakdowns carry between 16 and 20 entries, so sorting on that column would mostly sort our own effort. The confirmed figure is the one that moves with the film: it counts the details somebody involved in making it has since owned up to.

A film released decades ago has had decades of commentary tracks, anniversary interviews and art-book annotations in which its crew could confirm things; a film from last month has had weeks. So this is a ranking of what is confirmable today, not a league table of which director hid the most. 63 of the 77 titles carry at least one entry rated White Whale, the top of the spotting scale.

Counts are computed from the catalogue at build time, so this page moves when the database moves.
